It was another year when the Indian skipper Virat Kohli broke records at a premium. The year also saw Australian skipper Steven Smith break the 50-year old record of most Test runs scored (5764) after 108 innings which was held by Windies legendary batsman Sir Garfield Sobers since 1968. When Smith reached 108 in the final session, he passed that mark.

86.7 percent of Tests ended with a conclusive result
Out of 45 Tests, 39 came as the result for the teams while the other 7 ended in a draw. The rate was the highest in any calendar year with a minimum of 10 Test matches played. The previous best was 85.2 percent in 2002 in which 46 out of 54 Tests witnessed a result. This is a clear demonstration tha nowadays stat goes on to show that nowadays cricketers play Test matches to win.
Sri Lanka has opted to try out 7 different captains throughout the year across formats
These no. of changes are the most by any team in a calendar year. Upul Tharanga, Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, Thisara Perera, Rangana Herath, Chamara Kapugedera and Lasith Malinga were the 7 captains of Sri Lanka in 2017. 20 consecutive Tests for India against Sri Lanka without defeat at home
The 3rd most for any Test playing nation against an opponent, this is a record that will make Indian fans feel proud but for the Sri Lankans, it is something they would like to forget.
