Aakash Chopra has lauded Virat Kohli for making noticeable technical upgrades to his game, especially against legspinners. While Kohli may have recently stepped away from Test cricket, he’s showing no signs of slowing down in the white-ball format, particularly in the ongoing IPL 2025. Representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the batting maestro has been in top gear, guiding his side to a top-two finish and securing a playoff berth.

Kohli has already amassed 602 runs from 13 innings this season, lacing it with eight half-centuries. After RCB’s clinical win over Lucknow Super Giants in their final league encounter, Chopra broke down Kohli’s evolving approach against spin, calling it a “radical change” that showcases his adaptability and cricketing intelligence.
“Whether it’s a smartphone or a smart batter, you’ve got to update the software—and Kohli’s done just that. That’s why he continues to dominate,” Aakash Chopra said during his analysis on Star Sports.

Delving into the numbers, Chopra pointed out that Kohli’s strike rate against legspinners was consistently under 130 from 2020 to 2023. But since IPL 2024, there’s been a remarkable shift. In the 2024 season, Kohli struck at 150 against leggies, and he’s maintained a 146 strike rate in the current season—clear signs of a calculated and effective upgrade.

“He’s developed new shots, especially the slog sweep, and clears his front leg to take on deliveries even when they’re hitting the stumps. That’s a sign of an evolved batter,” Aakash Chopra noted.
Further highlighting Kohli’s adaptability, Chopra mentioned that the RCB veteran now strikes at 139 against good-length deliveries from legspinners—once a weak spot for him.
