India entered into the World Test Championship final against New Zealand with high expectations from everyone. But they falter in the all-important game as several key players failed to deliver the expected performance. Jasprit Bumrah had a forgettable game against New Zealand as he failed to claim a single wicket and looked out of colour throughout the game.

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra talked about Bumrah’s below-par performance in the final. He feels Bumrah bowls with a straight hand and with that wrist position, it’s hard to swing the ball.

“There is no doubt Bumrah is a special bowler, he is one of its kind. Absolute phenomenal bowler but is quick in the air. He keeps his hand straight, so the ball goes absolutely straight, doesn’t swing much. In the first half of the English summer, you need to make the ball move a lot more because the ball comes slightly slower after pitching. Then it becomes slightly easier to play,” Aakash Choprasaid on his YouTube channel.

However, Aakash Chopra believes Bumrah will be back at his best during the England Test series, which will begin in August.

“In the second half of the English summer, if you bowl at this pace, the airspeed comes very handy because the ball starts reversing. Let’s be patient, one-off game for Bumrah. I am not going to read too much into his performances.”

Bumrah bowled fewer overs in the final than Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami, who have more experience of playing in English conditions than him.

“Ishant Sharma was very good but he was drawing on his experience, he has played county cricket in England as well and 100 Test matches. Shami has also played more Test cricket than Bumrah,” Aakash Chopra signed off.
