Former Indian skipper, Anil Kumble has claimed that England’s southpaw pacer, Sam Curran will pose some challenges in front of India’s Suryakumar Yadav when both teams collide in the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022 on Thursday. Yadav and Curran have been witnessing purple patches in their respective careers in the tournament and find themselves in top positions on the batters’ and bowlers’ charts.

Speaking on Cricinfo’s T20 Time Out, Anil Kumble said that Curran will not make it easy for Yadav as we have seen all the bowlers struggle against him in the tournament.

While the former Indian coach did suggest that the Indian batter will also find the southpaw fast bowler challenging given his angle and trajectory at which he bowls, Anil Kumble still fancied Yadav to win the player battle against Curran on Thursday. He also commented that Yadav has found a way to put pressure back on the bowler and get to a strong strike rate.

Elaborating the same, Anil Kumble saidd, “I think he will definitely find it challenging bowling at Surya. We have seen every bowler struggle to bowl at Surya. He is amazing. The way he sort of changes his game depending on where the gaps are. He sort of makes up his mind by saying that ‘ok, this is going there’.”

He further explained, “But they could be a challenge for Surya as well because of the angle at which Sam Curran bowls and also the trajectory. He is pretty short and it is not going to be easy to get the bounce for someone like Sam Curran. But having said that, Surya has found a way of managing to put pressure back on the bowler and getting to that amazing strike rate. So I think Surya will fancy and Sam Curran will be under pressure for sure.”
