Former coach of the Indian cricket team Anil Kumble has come out in support of the captain of the Indian football captain Sunil Chhetri and his team as they face-off against Kenya in what will be the skipper’s 100th international game. Chhetri is only the second Indian footballer to be playing as many as 100 international matches while his goal tally has surpassed several other players who play professionally in Europe and South America.

As of 2016 and 2017, Kumble grabbed a lot of limelight as during that period, he was the coach of the Indian cricket team. However, the controversy took place after a rift between Kumble and the Indian skipper Virat Kohli came to light and the former India skipper had to step down from his post and eventually say ‘no’ for the contract extension. Ravi Shastri returned as the head coach and now, it would seem as though the Indian cricket team is indeed beginning to play a ruthless brand of cricket since his appointment.

Recently, Sunil Chhetri had shared a video on his social media platforms pleading with the fans to come to the stadium and watch the Indian football team in action. The message has been forwarded by the biggest of names in Indian cricket, something that usually does not happen under normal circumstances.

Stalwarts like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and even tennis sensation Sania Mirza had gone ahead and attended to Chhetri by promoting the football team. Krunal Pandya, the Mumbai Indians all-rounder also had done his bit by promoting the team in his own way.

Kumble’s tweet read: “The Indian football team needs all the support possible, and they’ve been working very hard to reach where they are now. Show up in numbers at the game tonight and make them proud! Good luck on your 100th international match @chetrisunil11.”
