India captain Rohit Sharma shared his views on the outside noise and said how being in the right mindset helped him to get back into form during the Cuttack ODI against England on Sunday, February 9 as well. However, Rohit had been struggling for form with the bat across formats of the game as the 16 innings before his knock in Cuttack saw him scoring only 166 runs. But Rohit was able to shut out the noise and smashed a stunning knock of 119 off just 90 balls with 12 boundaries and 7 sixes.

Speaking to the BCCI’s website, he said, “When people have played for a number of years and scored so many runs over the years. That means something. I’ve played this game for a long time now, and I understand what is required of me. So it’s just about going out there and doing your things and what I did today was one of my things. In my mind, it was just about doing the things that I do. Try and bat the way I do. I’ve been here long enough to know one or two knocks are not going to change my mind. But, just another day in the office.”

“Our job is to just get out there and play the game. As long as you know that today, when you go to bed, you know that you’ve given your best, that is what matters. Every time I walk out to the pitch, I want to try and do well. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it may not happen. As long as I am clear what I want to do, that’s all that matters. Nothing else,” he added.

“When you have scored so many runs, you’ve done something. You just need to get back to that mindset of how to get runs. Sounds really simple, but it is quite difficult. But in my mind, it was just about enjoying. That is what we play the sport for. To enjoy the game more than anything else,” Rohit Sharma concluded.

India and England will play the final ODI match of the series on February 12.
