India head coach Rahul Dravid has said that talented India batter Shreyas Iyer is fully fit ahead of the Asia Cup 2023. Speaking in a press conference in Bengaluru, he updated on the fitness levels of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul who have been returning after a long injury layoff. While Rahul will not play the first two matches of the Asia Cup 2023, Shreyas will be available for selection.

Speaking at the press conference, Rahul said, “Shreyas Iyer is fully fit, he has ticked all the boxes – batted and fielded a lot in the camp. The only thing he has missed is the game time. Looked pretty good, and it will be all about giving him more game time, hopefully it will come in Asia Cup. In terms of fitness, he has done really well, has batted really well, ticked all the boxes.”

“Both him (KL Rahul) and Shreyas are in same boat. Slightly cautious approach with KL. We are hoping he will only miss first two games and will be available for the latter part of the tour,” said Rahul Dravid. “We had to rotate people to see who could bat at that position. When people are not available we have to try other people, give them opportunities and that has always been the endeavour.”

Rahul Dravid also said that it was great to have Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna back in the mix. But he said that they had missed Bumrah a lot over the past two years and would ease him back into the mix slowly as well

“It is great to have them back. Jasprit is someone who we have missed a lot, over the last two years he has not played too much games,” Dravid said. “We will ease him into it slowly. It was nice for him to get those overs in the tour of Ireland. We have a whole month to build him up before the World Cup. It gives us more options in the pace bowling department,” stated Dravid.
