After losing the first Test of the series against India by 31 runs at Adelaide, the hosts Australia won the second Test at the new Perth Stadium (Optus Stadium) by 146 runs and levelled the four-match Test series by 1-1.

The previous record holder was the former right-arm pacer Craig McDermott with three times five-wicket haul against India in Australia.
  • Lyon’s seventh five-wicket haul in a Test innings against India. He has equalled the record of most number of five-wicket hauls in the Test innings against India that was lonely held by the former Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan (seven five-wicket hauls in Test innings against India).
