The International Cricket Council (ICC) has been delaying the decision of taking a final call on the fate of T20 World Cup later this year and the BCCI has not been able to figure whether the delay is deliberate or not and now the Indin board have decided to execute their own plans regardless of what ICC decides as explained by the BCCI treasurer.

Now, the BCCI will be looking to finalize their plans on this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL), irrespective of when the ICC takes a final call on the T20 World Cup.

Talking about the same to Times of India, the BCCU treasurer, Arun Dhumal said, “The year started on a horrible note and there’s been no relief on any front. But as time goes by, we need to take things head-on and ensure that we remain prepared for any eventuality. Cricket is no different. It is time for the BCCI to start planning for the year ahead.”

Dhumal reckons that the sporting fraternity has been witnessing going through transition of making a gradual return to mainstream sports on the domestic front. He gave the example of English Premier League (EPL) and FA Cup matches, even the NBA is also expected to commence soon in the US.

The young BCCI office said, “What BCCI is talking about is making plans, even if at the contingency levels, for September onwards,” Dhumal said, underlining how countries have been returning to live-action in sport through domestic leagues and tournaments. So, what are we witnessing here? Domestic leagues are in focus while the Olympics and the World Cups are taking a backseat.”

However, The Indian board has already lost a significant amount of time due to delays in certain announcements. The stakeholders in Indian cricket are now getting impatience over leaving things for others to decide when and what India should be doing.

Describing the same, Dhumal said, “Those announcements and outcomes are not in our hands. The T20 World Cup, for instance, is being postponed so let the announcement come when it has to. There have been meetings after meetings. And nothing has come out of a single meeting? Even the chairman has resigned. What’s the ICC waiting for now?”
