English all-rounder Ben Stokes and the limited-overs opener Alex Hales is going to face the disciplinary hearing this week after the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has brought a charge on them with bringing the game into disrepute.

On the night of September 25, 2017, Stokes was involved in a brawl incident outside a Bristol nightclub while Alex Hales was also in that place with Stokes. However, Hales wasn’t involved in that brawl incident.

Recently, in this August, Stokes was found not guilty of affray while Hales wasn’t charged. However, they have now to face the disciplinary hearing this week after the ECB has brought a charge on them with bringing the game into disrepute. Both the cricketers have been charged with two counts of breaching the ECB rules.

An ECB directive said according to BBC, “No-one may conduct themself in a manner or do any act or omission at any time which may be prejudicial to the interests of cricket, or which may bring the ECB, the game of cricket or any cricketer or group of cricketers into disrepute.”

The Cricket Discipline Commission (CDC) will meet on this matter on Wednesday (December 5) and Friday (December 7). The commission is expected to announce the decision this Friday.

Since that brawl incident happened, Stokes missed the cricket for around five months, including the entire 2017/18 Ashes Series in Australia that England lost by the 4-0 margin. Returning to the international cricket in the last February, Stokes has provided the modest performances on the grounds as an all-rounder.

England’s next international assignment is the West Indies tour. They will play the three-match Test series, five-match ODI series and three-match T20I series, starting from 23 January 2019. The national team’s head coach Trevor Bayliss hopes to get him available for their next game.

Bayliss also added that Stokes learned a lesson from that incident and he has changed himself after that incident.

The coach commented, ”I think he’s certainly learnt a lesson since that time. The way he’s conducted himself since he has come back into the fold has been exemplary.”
