England’s new white-ball head coach Brendon Mccullum has lauded captain Jos Buttler as the greatest ever white-ball player to play for the country. However, McCullum, who’s serving as England’s Test head coach since June 2022, was recently appointed as the white-ball coach as well, and his contract extended until the end of 2027.

Recently, McCullum spoke highly of England’s white-ball captain, Jos Buttler, lauding him on his remarkable career. He also called him the greatest white-ball player to don the England jersey and also said that he has nothing left to prove as well.

“I think Jos has had an unbelievable career. If he were to retire tomorrow, he goes down as arguably the greatest white-ball player England has ever had. He has nothing left to prove,” McCullum told Sky Sports.

However, Jos Buttler has been one of the finest players in the limited overs format as he played a key role in Englan’s ODI World Cup 2019 win with a magnificent 59 in the final. He took over the reins from Eoin Morgan and led the team to their second T20 World Cup victory in 2022 as well. England are now going through a transition period after they failed to defend their ODI and T20 World Cup titles as well.

McCullum also opened up on England’s ‘thirst for change’ and the need to bring some fresh faces into the national side as well.

“I think there is a thirst for change. The one-day and T20 teams have been incredibly successful. It is in need of refreshing and bringing in some of that new talent which has probably been inspired by the very people that they are going to end up replacing,” he added.

However, Brendon McCullum will take over the England white-ball setup from January 2025 before the India tour in the lead-up to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 as well. Until then, Marcus Trescothick will do the job as the Interim Head Coach for England’s upcoming series against Australia and the tour of the West Indies later this year.

Notably, England will play against Australia in a three-match T20I series beginning from September 11 followed by a five-match ODI series beginning from September 19 as well. Phil Salt will lead the England T20I side as Jos Buttler misses out due to a calf injury as well.
