However, the youngster had to deal with the loss of his brother prior to the league. And now, Chetan Sakariya is ensuring his father, who has recently been tested positive for COVID-19, is getting the best treatment in Bhavnagar, Gujarat. He has said that he got the news a couple of days ago that his father had affected by the virus and he has been staying at the hospital as well.

Rajasthan Royals bought Chetan Sakariya for Rs 1.2 crore at the mini-auction of IPL 2021 and he is grateful for the money that he got after playing in the T20 tournament. The speedster, who does not have a central contract, said that the money from IPL is currently helping him financially to take care of his father.

“I was lucky because I had received my part payment from Rajasthan Royals a few days ago. I straight away transferred money back home, and that is helping my family the most in my toughest time,” Sakariya was quoted as saying by The Indian Express. “People are saying stop IPL. I want to tell them something, I am the only bread earner in my family. Cricket is the only source of my earnings.”

“I can give better treatment to my father because of the money I earned from IPL. Had this tournament not happened for a month, it would have been tougher for me. I come from a poor family, my father all his life drove tempo and because of IPL my whole life was about to change. I am the only member in my community who has earned so much. My mother doesn’t know how many zeros are there in crores. Our first priority is to see my father back and then build that home. For that, IPL should happen,” Chetan Sakariya further added.

Sakariya has claimed 7 wickets in as many matches for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2021 before it was suspended on May 4 due to several players got infected by the Covid-19 virus in the bio-bubbles in different places. However, he had lived his dream as he managed to dismiss Chennai Super Kings captain, MS Dhoni.
