Nicholas Pooran, who recently resigned as West Indies skipper earned big bucks in the mini-auction ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) bought his services for INR 16 Crores. The batter earlier was released by SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) who witnessed a rough patch in the 2022 edition where he managed to score 306 runs in 14 matches.

It was quite surprising to see Nicholas Pooran receiving high numbers in the auction despite having a forgettable outing in the T20 WC. The left-handed batter recently gave up white ball captaincy of West Indies in order to focus on batting. It would be interesting to see whether he gets an entry into the playing 11 straightway.

Chris Gayle was having an interaction with Jio Cinema and was asked about Nicholas Pooran. He said, “Nicholas Pooran owes me some money. Right now, I need to get paid. He is rich now, so now he needs to pay me (laughs). But I’m really happy for him that he has been picked for such a big sum. It’s fantastic. Pooran is going to a place where Andy Flower has worked with him, KL Rahul has been a part of Punjab Kings. They know what his capabilities are.”

The LSG had a pretty good 2022 edition where the team managed to reach the playoffs in their maiden season. The franchisee can use Nicholas Pooran as a floater as we all witnessed how destructive he was in the recent T10 Abu Dhabi League where he scored 249 runs in 6 matches.

Skipper KL Rahul has a grueling task on his hands, as this time BCCI is all set to introduce home & away venues in the schedule where there would even be a contest between bat & ball. As mentioned by Chris Gayle, Pooran is quite familiar with the duo of Rahul & Andy Flower as earlier he was a part of Punjab Kings (PBKS) which would keep Pooran in good stead.
