South African opening batsman Dean Elgar thinks that the spinners will be a key factor during the upcoming home Test series against Australia. The four-match Test series between the hosts South Africa and the visitors Australia will begin on 1^st March.

Elgar believes that the slow left-arm orthodox bowler Keshav Maharaj can provide a big impact for the hosts against Australia in the upcoming home Test series. On Tuesday, Elgar told news conference, “I think against Australia you potentially need to slow the game down, which they probably aren’t used to. So a guy like Keshav has played well against them in the past, so he’ll play a big part in the series.”

Elgar added that both sides of spinners will provide a big influence in the upcoming Test series. Australia has their experienced spinner Nathan Lyon along with the slow left-arm orthodox bowler Jon Holland, who have 2 Test match experiences.

Elgar said, “I think either way the spinners are going to have an influence in the Tests, even if it’s holding up an end or trying to be attacking, which some surfaces might allow. It is a bit of a battle of the seamers, but there is a world-class spinner in both sides, so it’s going to be exciting Test cricket.”

Since 1970, Australia has never lost a Test series on the South African soil. On the other hand, South Africa have won their last three Test series on the Australian soil.

Last time they had met in the Test series on the Australian soil in 2016 where South Africa had won the series by the 1-2 margin. Recalling that moment, Elgar spoke out, “Our previous encounter is a fond memory for us. Having the ability to beat them in Australia is an encouraging factor, knowing that the last time we played against each other we had the upper hand.”
