Former Indian spinner, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan is expected to the incumbent chief selector of the Indian team, MSK Prasad. With the Annual General Meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) looming large, rumors over various assignments are on an all-time high.
In the last few years, there have been a lot of discussions with Prasad’s skills to lead a selection panel. Quite a few people questioned his understanding as he has played only a handful of international games. He was immensely scrutinized during the World Cup when he snubbed Ambati Rayudu to pick Vijay Shankar and Mayank Agarwal.

However, MSK Prasad’s tenure has come to an end and the buzz is that Laxman Sivaramakrishnan being his replacement from the south zone. There are aspirants from Hyderabad and Karnataka as well – Arshad Ayub and Venkatesh Prasad – but Sivaramakrishnan looks like the frontrunner due to support from Tamil Nadu. However, his selection as the chairman of selectors still depends on a few factors.
Among other names that are making rounds is that of Gyanendra Pandey. Former India and UP batsman is expected to replace Gagan Khoda from Central Zone. Like MSK, Khoda will also be vacating the position. Meanwhile, speaking about other zones, the names of Ashish Nehra and Deep Dasgupta and Rohan Gavaskar are going rounds from the North and East zone. But Sarandeep Singh and Devang Gandhi – the two officials from these zones can still continue in their posts.
Meanwhile, Ajit Agarkar and Dilip Vengsarkar have emerged as strong candidates from the west. Currently, Jatin Paranjpe is the selector from the west but it is likely that he will not continue. It will be a good fight between Agarkar and Vengsarkar to make it to the final panel.
