Glenn Maxwell Ready To Work With Virat Kohli In IPL

After having been released by Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), the Australian all-rounder, Glenn Maxwell is open to playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Three days ahead of the mini-auction in Chennai, Maxwell has expressed his interest to play for the RCB.

Glenn Maxwell, speaking to reporters on Monday, said he would love to work with his “idol” AB de Villiers at RCB and pointed out that he shared a good camaraderie with Virat Kohli, the captain of the Bengaluru-based franchise.

Describing the same, Glenn Maxwell said, “I get along with Virat pretty well. It’ll be certainly nice to work under Virat and will certainly enjoy batting with him – that’s for sure. It will be awesome to work with him, and he’s always been really helpful to me along the journey. Whenever I’ve caught up with him, he’s been brilliant. So to be able to work with him first hand will be pretty cool.”

Glenn Maxwell has been one of the costliest cricketers in the IPL over the years. He has represented 3 sides so far – Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals (Daredevils), and KXIP. He was bought for ₹9 crores in the IPL 2018 auction by DC but they released him after just one season. Ahead of IPL 2020, Maxwell was bought for ₹10.75 crores after fending off competition from the Capitals.

However, in IPL 2020, Maxwell only managed to score 108 runs in 13 matches in IPL 2020 as his season in the UAE ended without him hitting a single six.  Talking about his IPL stint further, Maxwell said, “We’ve had different coaches – Punter [Ricky Ponting, Sanjay Bangar, Sehwag – and it’s been awesome. People ask me if my cricket would be different if I didn’t go for that [IPL], but I have no idea. But I don’t think it would because I don’t feel I’ve changed too much as a person.”

Ahead of IPL 2021 auction, RCB released as many as 10 players despite having reached the play-offs at IPL 2020. Some of them include big names like Aaron Finch, Chris Morris, Dale Steyn, Umesh Yadav, and Shivam Dube. RCB will be heading into the IPL 2020 auction with the third biggest purse of ₹35.2 crores as 292 players are set to go under the hammer in Chennai on February 18. Negi, Isuru Udana, Gurkeerat Mann.
