The newly bought Shivam Dube by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for 5 Crores is all set to make his debut in the Indian Premier League and also has the chances to be featured in the playing XI in the IPL opener against Chennai Super Kings which starts on March 23.
Dubey who is a right-arm bowler and a left-handed batter. Dubey gave his reputation a massive uplift in the last year with some big hitting strokes in the Mumbai T20 league, followed by his consistent performances in the Ranji Trophy.
He has hit five sixes in an over twice in his career, first against Pravin Tambe in the Mumbai T20 league, and next against Swapnil Singh in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. His impressive figures of 3 for 29 helped Mumbai win the Vijay Hazare Trophy almost after 11 years.
Dubey was the second highest run-scorer with 632 runs from eight matches at an average of 52.66 for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy where he sent the ball out of the boundary for 81 times with 56 fours and 25 sixes. He also picked 23 wickets in the tournament with 7/53 against Karnataka in November last year.
With the virtue of hitting many sixes in a over he has been compared to the likes of Yuvraj Singh who has contributed some great innings with bat and ball in the ICC tournaments and different bilateral series and was also awarded as the Man of the tournament in 2011 World Cup as he scored 362 runs and picked 15 wickets.
The 25-year-old Shivam Dube is very overwhelmed to hear that he has been seen at that level of a legendary batsman whom he himself admires and also wishes to intake some of his qualities for his following career.
“It feels really good when you are compared with a legend like Yuvraj Singh. I will be happy if I can have some percentage of his qualities in my career. I want to be a good player like him,” Dube was quoted as saying in an interview with The Times of India (TOI).
“I have been working hard for the IPL 2019 season. I have attended some rigorous training sessions. The RCB coaching staff has helped me a lot. I am in pretty decent form and want to carry the momentum into the IPL as well,” Dube was quoted as saying in an exclusive interview with The Times of India (TOI).
“You will see the same Shivam who performed in the Ranji Trophy. I am 100 percent ready. RCB fans are going to enjoy my sixes, the way they did in Ranji Trophy. I always believe in keeping my calm. I have great patience. This helps me while batting. I don’t take any bowler lightly. I believe in dominating the bowler before he dominates me,” he remarked.
Dube has once met Virat Kohli under whose leadership he will be playing his debut season, while Kohli was practicing during India’s net session and he will further seek to take many tips from the Indian captain.
Shivam Dube is very excited to share the dressing room with Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers and also learn how to be fit like Kohli has evolved since his career.
