The veteran Indian spinner, Harbhajan Singh said that he will pick Mohammed Siraj ahead of Ishant Sharma for the World Test Championship final against New Zealand on Friday. Harbhajan said he bases his opinion on the fact that Siraj has been in good form and he is a new entity for New Zealand as well.

Harbhajan Singh elaborated, “If I was part of management, I would back Siraj over Ishant. Just purely on his form, he is young, raw, and quick and the New Zealanders haven’t played him. With all due respect to Ishant, he is a senior member, he has played a number of games for India and done well but this is just one game where I will put Siraj ahead of Ishant Sharma.”

Harbhajan said that he backs India to win the match based on their recent form and their performances both home and away.

The veteran Indian spinner said, “I back them purely on talent and the results they have got in recent series. They won the series in Australia, done really well in India. In bowling, you have Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and, of course, Jasprit Bumrah. All they need to do is make sure they start very well.”

The Indian spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja has played only one Test match together in England, that too in 2014. But former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh firmly believes that both Ashwin and Jadeja should be featured in the World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand in Southampton, starting from Friday.

Harbhajan explained, “India team management should play both the spinners, irrespective of the conditions and pitch. With two experienced quality spinners in their rank, they should not worry about the wickets. No matter what conditions are, you have to back your best bowlers.”
