All the activity regarding sports has come to a standstill in the world due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. The virus has witnessed several sports events postponed including the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League which was considered as the way of MS Dhoni to return in the circuit again. But due to the current situation, it is tough to host the league so as the return of former India captain, thinks one of the most celebrated cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle.

“My gut feel is that his (Dhoni’s) India ambitions might be over. I don’t think Dhoni would have been looking to September-October for the T20 World Cup. Maybe if he just had a great IPL but my gut feel is that was beyond him,” Bhogle said while speaking on Cricbuzz podcast.

The IPL, which was earlier decided to begin from March 31, had already been postponed to April 15 and now it could be cancelled after the country went into a 21-day lockdown from March 25 to fight the novel coronavirus pandemic. MS Dhoni, on the other hand, last played for India at the 2019 World Cup semi-final where they had lost to New Zealand. Since then, he has been out of the action.

On the other hand, India head coach Ravi Shastri had told IANS earlier that the IPL would decide the future of MS Dhoni who plays for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL. However, Harsha Bhogle further said that even though he might not return to the Indian team for the T20 World Cup, he will be a key player for CSK.

“Last year towards the end of the IPL, towards the end of the league stage I got an opportunity of doing a couple of post-match presentations and there was Dhoni and he wasn’t holding back at the presentations which were normally three four minutes but this one seven to nine minutes almost and when Dhoni is in that talkative mode we don’t stop him,” he concluded.
