Former India player Aakash Chopra has said that Nitish Kumar Reddy has been India’s best batter in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. However, he also added that the all-rounder is unlikely to get a promotion in the batting order.
In a video shared on his YouTube channel ‘Aakash Chopra’, he said, “I will be fair. The temptation is there to make him bat slightly up the order because he is batting so well. In fact, he is the best batter in India at this point in time. It seems like no one is batting better or more confidently than him, and so he should be batted up the order.”
“However, in whose place will you play him? Ahead of whom will you send him? Two openers go and after that (Shubman) Gill comes. After that, (Virat) Kohli, (Rishabh) Pant and Rohit Sharma come. In whose place will you get him to bat? That’s point number one. He is not getting a place to bat up the order,” Chopra further added.

In the same video, Aakash Chopra also stated that Nitish Kumar Reddy’s batting style is best suited to the lower-middle order.
“Secondly, that kind of batting works at the number he is batting. You don’t know how he will play if he is made to bat up the order. There is no doubt that he can bat, but at this point in time, I don’t see a space. How will you make him bat up the order? I feel you won’t be able to do that. I totally get that he is looking very good, defends well and does good hitting, and we have seen fantastic ways of playing in all four of his innings. He looks like a batter who can bat in the top five but there is no place as of now,” Chopra again shared.
Meanwhile, Aakash Chopra recently shared how Team India have consistently failed against Australia’s Travis Head. His comments came after Head continued his stunning form against India as well.

“I feel that our plans against Travis Head are not right. We start trying too hard and then give up too fast. Then we wait, and then nothing works actually. So, it is a sad story. What is the coaching staff doing? Morne Morkel is sitting there, he must be telling the bowlers about what plan we have for Travis Head. Like we are going to bowl a bouncer to him from over the wicket of around the wicket, or we are trying to make him play the drive. Every time he comes, Australia are in trouble. Every time he leaves, Australia recover by then. Being clueless against Travis Head is hurting Team India and it is not a good statement,” Chopra added.
“There is no logic in it that you play someone in one match and then someone else in the next game. Maybe Kuldeep will play the next Test, that is how it starts to feel. No one has done anything wrong, still you keep changing. Why are you changing? You do it after losing and even after winning. I genuinely feel India is missing a trick,” he concluded.
