Sri Lankan cricketer Niroshan Dickwella faced an embarrassing question from a Pakistani journalist during Sri Lanka’s post-match press conference after the Day 2 of the ongoing 1st Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi. Dickwella who had arrived to talk in the press meet after the end of day’s play on Thursday was mistaken for Dhananjaya de Silva twice. His surprise and reaction to the blunder from the journalist left everyone in splits.

The journalist started by saying “you played well…” before Dickwella stopped him by saying: ”I’m Dickwella actually. I’m not de Silva.” Dickwella got dismissed after scoring 33 in Sri Lanka’s 1st innings while de Silva was still unbeaten in the middle at stumps having scored 72.

His clarification, however, failed to take place with the journalist as he continued with the same question.

“You played well on this pitch and in these conditions. Are you thinking a hundred on this pitch?” the journalist asked. “You mean me? I am Dickwella not de Silva,” Niroshan Dickwella replied with a laugh. “I got out. I am already out in the pavilion. Maybe in the second innings.”

Dhananjaya de Silva remained unbeaten as Sri Lanka reached 263 for six on the second day of the opening Test against Pakistan at Rawalpindi on Thursday.  After bad light stooped the play on Wednesday when Test cricket returned to Pakistan for the first time after a decade, it was the rain which played the spoilsport on Thursday.

A little more than 18 overs of play was possible during the second day during which Sri Lanka lost Niroshan Dickwella for 33 to the pacer Shaheen Afridi after resuming on 202 for five. De Silva hit 11 fours in his unbeaten knock of 72 with Dilruwan Perera not out on two when the umpires decided to call off the game for the day.
