Pakistan is all set to host the Asia Cup in 2020 prior to the T20 World Cup which is scheduled to play in Australia. However, the next edition of the Asia Cup will be played in the shortest format as the T20 World Cup will follow it. Asia Cricket Council (ACC) took the decision in their recent meeting in Singapore in presence of the officials of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

However, in 2015, It was decided that the Asia Cup will be played in both the formats but on a rotation basis. As per the rule,  the 2016 edition was played in T20I format, keeping the T20 World Cup in mind. Same as the tournament was played in the 50-over format last year as the ICC World Cup will be played this year. India won the last edition by defeating Bangladesh. However, they are the most successful team in the history of the Asia Cup as they won the title seven times which included the last two times.

But it is not a hard task to understand that India’s participation in the next edition of Asia Cup is doubtful as Pakistan will host the tournament as decided by ACC. The relation between the two countries are known to everyone and it is expected that India would not be going to take part in the event as they don’t play any bilateral series now due to political reasons. They last faced each other in a bilateral series in 2012.

Both the teams now only play in any ICC tournaments or the Asia Cup. However, the relation got worst after the Pulwama attack this year. However, there is a doubt that the game between India and Pakistan in the World Cup could be a boycott. On the other hand, media reports say that the venues might be changed by ACC as per the news of  New Indian Express. It would be interesting to see if the situation remains the same will India travel there or they wouldn’t take part in the tournament.
