During the 24th match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Bengaluru, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s AB de Villiers broke all hell loose as he seemed to be in an unstoppable mode.

At the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, captain of Chennai Super Kings, had put in the home team in to bat. Chennai had included Harbhajan Singh and Imran Tahir in place of Faf du Plessis and Karn Sharma. On the other hand, Bangalore had included Colin de Grandhomme and Pawan Negi into their playing eleven in place of Manan Vohra and Chris Woakes.

de Villiers came in to bat at No. 3 in the fifth over when Virat Kohli was dismissed on 18 (15). With Quinton de Kock at the other end, he took the onus onto him to launch the big hits to all part of the ground. Imran Tahir, his South African teammate, was highly affected by de Villiers’ onslaught as he hit him for 19 runs in his second over.

Tahir was introduced into the attack in the ninth over. Having given just five runs in his first over, Dhoni continued bowling with him. On the first delivery of his second over, de Villiers brought out a reverse-sweep which went for a boundary. A delivery later, de Villiers swept a Tahir delivery for a six over deep square leg. If this was not enough, de Villiers followed it with a momentous hit over the long on fielder as the ball went past the stadium.

Dhoni replaced Tahir with Shardul Thakur. But the result remained the same as de Villiers hit three consecutive sixes against the Indian medium-fast bowler. On the first delivery of the 13th over, de Villiers hit a soaring six over deep midwicket.

In a bid to stop de Villiers, Thakur bowled a knuckle ball only to see it crossing the boundary line on the full. On the next ball, de Villiers hit him over the covers for yet another six. Bangalore accumulated 20 runs from this over as they raced towards a gigantic total.
