Delhi Daredevils spoiled the plans of Mumbai Indians as they knocked them out of the playoffs race. Chasing 175, Mumbai were moving towards the target steadily and the chances of them making it to the playoffs looked certain. All that changed when the Delhi leg-spinners arrived in action and struck crucial blows to stop the defending champions from winning. Despite Cutting’s heroics, Mumbai fell short by 11 runs and got knocked out.

The match did hinge on Ben Cutting’s dismissal in the last over where Mumbai Indians needed 18 runs to win. The Aussie all-rounder was in a smashing form as he smacked 37 runs from 20 balls with two fours and three sixes. He was the one around whom all the hopes of Mumbai were hovering.

The last over was handed to Harshal Patel than the English bowler Liam Plunkett who conceded 15 runs in his last over. Harshal had conceded 22 runs in his two overs and now had the big responsibility. Cutting started off well as he slammed a six on the first ball. Next ball, Patel ended the chances of Mumbai as Cutting mishit and the catch was taken, Maxwell. Bumrah was out on the next ball and DD won the match.

The collapse started when Evin Lewis was out stumped against Amit Mishra. MI was 74/2 in 8.5 overs before that dismissal and lost the plot once he got out. Lamicchane took out Pollard on the next ball and MI started panicking. Krunal Pandya’s quick dismissal worsened the situation.

Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma started consolidating and tried to take the match through. Rohit Sharam already plagued by injury was too slow and got out for 13(10). Hardik Pandya, who has been Mumbai’s matchwinner from such situations in past, had to take Mumbai home. He was dismissed by Amit Mishra and the task then left to Cutting alone. He tried his best but fell a little short.
