During the 44th match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Indore, Dinesh Karthik, captain of Kolkata Knight Riders, raced his way to his fastest IPL half-century (off 22 balls).

After Ravichandran Ashwin won the toss and chose to field in the dry heat of Indore, his decision backfired as Kolkata Knight Riders ended up scoring their highest IPL score, 245-6.

After watching the conditions for a couple of overs, the Knight Riders’ openers in Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine laid a foundation for the batsmen to follow. Coming in to bat before Nitish Rana, Karthik entered the ground at No. 5 in the 12th over. On the second ball that he faced, Karthik hit a four through the third-man region off Axar Patel.
