During the 25th match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at Hyderabad, Kings XI Punjab restricted Sunrisers Hyderabad to 132-6 in their allotted quota of 20 overs.

Ravichandran Ashwin, captain of Kings XI Punjab, had won the toss and chose to field. His bowlers supported his decision to full effect. Ankit Rajpoot per se caused major damage, picking up his maiden IPL five-wicket haul.

Kings XI Punjab did not give many chances to the opposition batsmen in terms of bowling. That being said, one aspect of the game which gave the opposition numerous chances was their dismal fielding. Despite their stellar bowling performance, Punjab’s fielders dropped as many as four catches.

On the last delivery of the fourth over, Manish Pandey hit a Barinder Sran in the air. Ashwin, who was fielding at mid off, ran back from his position but failed to hang on to the catch. On the last delivery of the following over, Pandey was once again dropped after he pulled a Rajpoot delivery to Andrew Tye at short midwicket.

On the last delivery of the 17th over, Pandey got his third life of the match after Mayank Agarwal shelved a catch off Andrew Tye at deep midwicket. A couple of balls later, Manoj Tiwary became the culprit after he dropped Yusuf Pathan at deep midwicket.

Had Kings XI Punjab’s fielders not dropped so many catches, Punjab would have restricted the opposition to a much lesser target. The support staff must have noticed the same and would be looking to improve the situation in the matches to come.
