During the 11th match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals at Bengaluru, Rajasthan Royals wicket-keeper Jos Buttler committed a couple of blunders in consecutive overs, handing two lives to AB de Villiers.

After Virat Kohli sent Rajasthan Royals sent in to bat, Royal Challengers Bangalore were set a daunting target of 218 runs in 20 overs. Despite losing Brendon McCullum in the first over itself, the Royal Challengers were in the chase on the back of captain Kohli’s efforts.

AB de Villiers, who came in to bat at No. 4 in the ninth over, was given two lives by Buttler in the ninth and 10th over respectively. On the penultimate delivery of the ninth over, Shreyas Gopal was successful in bringing out de Villiers out of his crease. The googly saw de Villiers missing the ball completely.

Buttler missed out on two opportunities.

Having said that, de Villiers wasn’t the only one who missed the ball as Buttler, too, failed to collect the ball cleanly, thereby missing the chance. On the second ball of the following over, Virat Kohli dabbed a Ben Laughlin delivery. In a bid to run a quick single, de Villiers had left his crease. However, Kohli wasn’t even interested which left de Villiers stranded in the middle of the field.

Once again, it was Buttler who failed miserably to collect the ball and throw it at the non-striker’s end, giving another life to de Villiers. Whether de Villiers will make these chances count and change the course of the match, only time will tell.
