During the 16th match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Kings XI Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad at Mohali, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Manish Pandey made a desperate effort to dismiss his state-mate in Karun Nair. As unfortunate as it sounds, Pandey was unable to hold on to the catch.

Ravichandran Ashwin, captain of Kings XI Punjab, had won the toss and chose to bat. Seldom has any captain taken the decision of winning the toss and choosing to bat in this season of the IPL.

Manish Pandey.

Karun Nair, who came in to bat at No. 4 in the 11th over, didn’t bother getting his eye in as he played a lofted shot against Shakib Al Hasan on the third ball that he faced. Not timing the ball as well as he would have liked, it was a chance for the long-off fielder in Pandey.

To start off, Pandey grabbed a one-handed catch in the first place. However, the momentum pushed him backwards to the extent that the ball which he threw in the air also ended up going behind the boundary line and more importantly outside his reach.
