During the 13th match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi Daredevils (DD) at Kolkata, Kolkata Knight Riders beat Delhi Daredevils by 71 runs in a match which ended up being a one-sided fixture.

After being put in to bat by Gautam Gambhir, Kolkata Knight Riders had scored 200-9 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. In reply, the Daredevils were bundled out on 129 in 14.2 overs.

Now, we will look at the hits and flops players in this match.

Hits

Rana scored his fifth IPL half-century.

Nitish Rana (KKR) – Kolkata Knight Riders’ Nitish Rana scored his fifth IPL half-century, the first one of this season, and that too in an imposing manner. He played an instrumental role in holding the Knight Riders’ innings together, especially during a situation when the team had lost its captain Dinesh Karthik and opener Chris Lynn. Not wasting much time to get going, he ended up scoring 59 (35) with the help of five fours and four sixes.

Russell did not waste much time in the middle.

Andre Russell (KKR) – Coming in to bat at No. 6 in the 14th over, Andre Russell stood tall on the expectations in him for the second time in four matches for the Knight Riders this season. A game-changer as he is, Russell’s innings lasted for 12 balls, but he made sure that the match turned towards his team during those 12 balls. He hit six towering sixes off Mohammad Shami in two overs as he ended up scoring 41.

Sunil Narine picked up his 100th IPL wicket.

Sunil Narine (KKR) – Kolkata Knight Riders’ Sunil Narine had a stellar match. He completed 100 IPL wickets in this match. At the end of the match, he was given the ‘Purple Cap’. With bowling figures of 3-0-18-3, he was the pick of the Knight Riders’ bowlers tonight. His wickets included Chris Morris, Vijay Shankar and Mohammad Shami.

Flops

Shami went for 42 runs in his last two overs.

Mohammad Shami (DD) – Delhi Daredevils’ Mohammad Shami bowled his first two overs for a paltry 11 runs and also picked up the wicket of Chris Lynn. However, what happened after that was something which Shami would want to forget. Andre Russell’s assault happened and Shami conceded 42 runs in his next two overs. His overall figures of 4-0-53-2 were way too for someone of his stature.

Jason Roy playing through the off-side.

Jason Roy (DD) – Delhi Daredevils’ opening batsman Jason Roy, who scored an unbeaten 91 in the previous match, failed to make any sort of impact in this match as he was dismissed in the first over itself. He ended up scoring 1 (3) after completed missing a Piyush Chawla delivery and being stumped by Dinesh Karthik.

Gautam Gambhir (DD) – In a 201-run chase, Daredevils would have expected more from their captain. Opening the batting with Roy, Gambhir was the third Daredevil wicket to fall, scoring 8 (7) with the help of one four. Gambhir’s limited stay on the wicket never really showed signs of stability. Additionally, him getting out in the third over after Roy and Shreyas Iyer had already been dismissed added to the Daredevils’ misery.
