Kolkata Knight Riders playing at their grand home ground tonight registered a mammoth win over Delhi Daredevils as they coasted to a win by 71 runs. Gautam Gambhir‘s return to Kolkata did not prove fruitful as he ended up on the losing side. Delhi batting faltered in the second innings to crash all out only in the 14th over. Our turning point of the match occurred in the 9th over of the Delhi Daredevils innings.
Chasing 201, a magnificent start was paramount for the Delhi team. That was not to be Piyush Chawla got Jason Roy in the first over itself, Roy had guided DD to mountain chase against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede stadium. Andre Russell then struck another blow as he removed Shreyas Iyer.
With Gautam Gambhir‘s dismissal, Delhi was under serious threat but their extraordinary batting depth showed up as Rishabh Pant and Glenn Maxwell joined each other at the crease. The duo set about blasting the runs and soon got the Delhi metro back on the track.
The runs kept coming thick and fast as Rishabh grasped the mantle in his hand, set himself about chasing the total while he had the enormous support standing in form of Glenn Maxwell at the other end. At the end of the eight overs, DD was at 81/3 with the required run-rate lower than the current run-rate.
It was then the game changed. Kuldeep Yadav bowled a false delivery. It was short and on the perfect line to be belted for a six. Pant undoubtedly went after it with his full power. Pant could not direct it correctly as he found Chawla set perfectly beneath the ball to dismiss him. Pant was out for 43(26). Delhi team added only 33 runs after his dismissal.
