Visitors Mumbai Indians (MI) suffered another thrilling defeat against the hosts’ side Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Sawai Mansingh Stadium (Jaipur) on Sunday night.

Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma decided to bat first after winning the toss. They managed to score 167/7 in 20 overs which was successfully chased by the hosts in 19.4 overs after losing 7 wickets. As a result, Rajasthan won by 3 wickets with 2 balls to spare.

Now, we will briefly talk about some important reasons for MI’s defeat in this match.

Massive batting collapse in death overs

Opening batsman Suryakumar Yadav and no.3 batsman Ishan Kishan built up the MI innings superbly as they put 129 runs partnership for the second wicket. It set the platform for the team to put a good total on the board but the death over batting collapse denied that. Since those set batsmen departed, other MI batsmen failed to score runs on the same pitch.

The visiting team only managed to add 37 runs for six wickets in the last 35 deliveries of that innings.

Failed to utilize the opportunity after the hosts’ opening batting failure

While both RR openers returned to the pavilion cheaply, MI bowlers failed to carry that momentum in further. Hosts RR went down for 38/2 in 5.4 overs as the openers Rahul Tripathi and Ajinkya Rahane were dismissed for 9 and 14 runs respectively.

However, soon Sanju Samson and Ben Stokes provided a very important third-wicket partnership which relieved the host team.

Krishnappa Gowtham’s confident hitting in the deciding moment

RR also faced a late batting collapse just like MI but no.8 batsman Krishnappa Gowtham single-handedly saved the game for the hosts. His confident attacking batting performance at the end moment helped the team to secure a thrilling victory.

The 29-year-old right-handed batsman was not out at the end after scoring 33 runs off just 11 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. Most importantly, he took the responsibility to finish the game and succeeded in that mission.

Jasprit Bumrah’s last over

Jasprit Bumrah

While MI pacer and slog-over specialist Jasprit Bumrah bowled brilliantly in his first three overs as he had a bowling figure of 3-0-10-2 at that time, his crucial final over changed his image totally in this match.

It was the 19th over of RR innings as they needed 28 runs off 12 balls. Bumrah provided a no-ball in that crucial time as well as he had not much control with the ball. He gave three boundaries in that over as he conceded 18 runs in that over along with an extra costly delivery.

That over set the match for the hosts which they secured in the better way at the final over.
