The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) completed three consecutive wins after defeating the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on Wednesday. The tables started to turn for them after the arrivals of Dale Steyn, who joined the squad as a replacement of Nathan Coulter-Nile. He played his first match of the season on April 19 against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and then the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to pick a total of four wickets.

However, due to a shoulder injury, Steyn missed the KXIP game which surprised everyone. RCB’s bowling attack was full of confidence after his arrival and Steyn picked wickets in the powerplay which the team hadn’t managed at all earlier in the season. The luxury of the South African superstar just for two games for RCB as he has been ruled out of the rest of the season due to the same injury. However, no further details have been revealed yet.

Dale Steyn’s IPL stint didn’t even last a week but he managed to give nostalgia to most of his fans during the two matches he played. RCB defeated KKR and CSK, two of the strongest teams in the tournament, and Steyn played a major role in it. Upon his arrival, Virat Kohli and his men picked seven wickets in the powerplay in two outings which they hadn’t managed even in the nine matches collectively earlier.

Kohli even mentioned during one of the post-match interviews that Steyn joining the team has increased the confidence of the young bowlers like Navdeep Saini. Steyn’s less than a week stay in India was memorable and most importantly, changed RCB’s fortunes in the season.

At least they are off the last place in the points table and it will be interesting to see if they continue to win their remaining matches in his absence.
