The Mumbai Indians (MI) has managed to registered their third win of the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad by 40 runs. Subsequently, under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma Mumbai has managed to win back-to-back games in the IPL 2019.
Earlier in the game, SRh had won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first. The decision worked out well for them as they restricted Mumbai to a modest total of 136 for seven in 20 overs. Mohammad Nabi drew the first blood, removing Rohit Sharma in the fourth over, then Sandeep Sharma trapped Suryakumar Yadav to get the second wicket. Ishan Kishan, who replaced Yuvraj Singh, was run out after he scored 17 from 21 balls.

Quinton de Kock and Krunal Pandya were dismissed by Siddarth Kaul. Hardik Pandya also failed to add many runs under his belt and he was dismissed by Rashid Khan for 14. However, then Kieron Pollard decided to take the responsibility as he churned out a superlative knock of unbeaten knock of 46 runs from 26 deliveries with the help of two fours and four over-boundaries. Mumbai was reeling even after the 18th over, but Pollard’s massacre in the death helped Mumbai to reach the decent total.
The SRH openers, David Warner and Jonny Bairstow gave a decent start and added 33 runs in 22 balls before Rahul Chahar nipped out Bairstow to give SRH their first breakthrough. In the very next over, Alzarri Joseph castled Warner and went on to bowl a wicket-maiden. The Windies pacer dismissed Vijay Shankar in his next over as well. Manish Pandey also couldn’t get going and got out after scoring 16 from 21 balls.

Thereafter, Joseph, who replaced Lasith Malinga, finished the game with the figures of 6/12 which are the best figures in the IPL. He was the reason behind the collapse of SRH’s batting order. For the hosts, the required run-rate kept mounting with every bal. In the end, the Sunrisers were bowled out for 96 in 17.4 overs even as Joseph picked up a six-wicket haul.
Brief Score:
Mumbai Indians – 136/7 in 20 overs (K Pollard: 46*; S Kaul: 2/34, M Nabi: 1/13) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad – 96 all-out in 17.4 overs (D Hooda: 20; A Joseph: 6/12) by 40 runs
