Every time the RCB skipper, Virat Kohli had come out for a toss in IPL 2019, he had has hoped that his players will do well help them win the game. A similar thing happened against the Delhi Capitals (DC) as well at the Chinnaswamy stadium on Sunday again RCB faced another loss owing to the rash shots from there batsmen and even the bowlers and fielders didn’t respond well. However, one can’t take any credit away from the Delhi Capitals who were quite dominant.

Shreyas Iyer and Prithvi Shaw made a brilliant partnership

After opting to field first, Delhi restricted the hosts to 149 runs and then came out to chase it brilliantly. Shreyas Iyer led from the front by playing scintillating innings of 67 runs and was well assisted by Prithvi Shaw and Colin Ingram. Though somehow, they decided to make it tough for themselves by playing poor strokes with only six runs needed to go over the line.

Iyer, Chris Morris and Rishabh Pant got out towards the end of the chase. Even Virat Kohli was seen laughing with the way the wickets were falling as the RCB had no hopes of winnings. Axar Patel then took Delhi over the line for their third win of the season.

Earlier, the RCB had a forgettable start when Parthiv Patel got out early off Chris Morris after which Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers steadied the innings with a cautious partnership. But the latter was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada after scoring just 20 runs in the final over the powerplay. Marcus Stoinis also couldn’t do much and the innings got some momentum only after Moeen Ali came out to bat.

Ali played jus for 18 balls but smashed 32 runs to increase the run-rate suddenly. But a little bit sensible cricket from him would’ve helped the RCB in the game. After hitting Lamichhane for a six, he got stumped. Kohli didn’t get any strike during this period even Akshdeep Nath got a couple of boundaries.

When on strike, Virat smacked the Lamichhane for a couple of boundaries to get going. Just when the crowd thought that their captain will help them to reach a decent total, Rabada’s pace was too much for him as the South African got his wicket of RCB’s skipper to trigger a collapse. The hosts lost a total of three wickets in the 18th over to finish on the under-par 149/8 after 20 overs.

The score was going to be enough for the bowlers and the Delhi Capitals got over the line without by putting much of an effort. RCB, meanwhile, have now lost six matches in as many outings and their playoff chances look even colder.

Brief score:

Delhi Capitals – 152/6 in 18.5 overs (S Iyer: 67, P Shaw: 28; N Saini: 2/24) defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore – 149/8 in 20 overs (V Kohli: 41; K Rabada: 4/21, C Morris: 2/28) by 4 wickets and 7 balls to spare
