Kolkata Knight Riders was hosting Chennai Super Kings with hopes to take revenge of last time they played together. MS Dhoni won his fifth successive toss and took no time in inviting Kolkata to bat first. Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine gave them a quick start; where only former was scoring runs. Narine was outfoxed by Mitchell Santner for just two runs. Nitish Rana and Robin Uthappa fell in an Imran Tahir over. Lynn was playing a good hand to keep KKR’s score ticking. When he tried to unleash in the 14th over, Tahir undid him with his flight. Andre Russell fell in the same over as well to leave KKR searching for momentum. The home team failed to score a single boundary in last four overs and finished their innings for 161/8 in 20 overs.

In response, Chennai received an early blow in form of Shane Watson, who got LBW out in the fourth over. Faf du Plessis played a good hand but perished after scoring 24 runs in 16 balls. Suresh Raina looked determined to play a big innings today and he exactly did the same. He scored a fighting fifty while wickets were falling from the other end. Raina remained unbeaten till the end to take CSK over the line by five wickets. He found a good ally in Ravindra Jadeja, who scored unbeaten 31 runs in 17 balls including five boundaries.

Imran Tahir’s deadly blow

Veteran South African leg-spinner was bowling his heart out at Eden Gardens. Imran Tahir dismissed Nitish Rana and Robin Uthappa in a span of three deliveries of his second over. He, then, removed dangerous looking Chris Lynn before turning the game with the wicket of Andre Russell. Tahir finished the match with figures of 4-0-27-4.

Suresh Raina denied KKR a certain win

Veteran Chennai player was yet to play a match-winning innings in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2019 but he played one when his team needed most. Suresh Raina scored well-fought 58 runs off 42 balls where he hit seven fours and one six. He fought alone against Kolkata bowlers and denied them from winning the game.
