The last season’s finalists Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) locking horns with each other at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad and the hosts finally managed to register a win against Chennai. After winning the toss, the CSK skipper, Suresh Raina decided to bat first. However, the visitors started on a decent note as both their openers, Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson started off cautiously and they failed to make it big.

During the toss, the SRH skipper, Kane Williamson revealed that they have made a couple of changes to their squad as Ricky Bhui and Abhishek Sharma made way for Yusuf Pathan and Shahbaz Nadeem. On the other hand, CSK also had a couple of changes in their squad as MS Dhoni and Mitchell Santner made way for Sam Billings, and Karn Sharma.

Watson and Du Plessis added just 41 runs in powerplay owing to some brilliant bowling by the SRH bowlers. However, the Aussies all-rounder got out to Shahbaz Nadeem in the 10th over before taking the partnership to the 79-run mark. Soon after that, even Du Plessis was also dismissed in the next over of Vijay Shankar. Even Billing got out to Khaleel Ahmed in the 15th over.

Warner’s knock

During the chase, David Warner and Jonny Bairstow came out all guns blazing against the CK bowlers from the word go as they amassed 66 runs for the opening wicket. Warner scored another fifty in just 24 balls before getting dismissed by Deepak Chahar in the final over of the powerplay and he almost saved the game for his team.

After Warner’s dismissal, Williamson also got out early to Imran Tahir in the very next over. However, Vijay Shankar added 33 runs for the third wicket with Bairstow before getting out to Tahir in the 13th over with SRH requiring just 27 runs in the almost 50 balls. Deepak Hooda and Bairstow took the responsibility to get their team home and they managed to do so in the 17th over as the hosts won the game by  6 wickets and 19 balls to spare. Bairstow finished the game with a six.
