IPL 2019: Match 51 (MI vs SRH): Turning Point Of The Game

The Mumbai Indians (MI) hosted the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 51st game of the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Wankhede Stadium. After winning the toss, the MI skipper, Rohit Sharma decided to bat first and the game went down the wire as the result came in the super over.

During the toss, the SRH skipper revealed that they have a made a couple of changes in their squad as David Warner and Sandeep Sharma made way for Martin Guptill and Basil Thampi. On the other hand, the MI team didn’t consider making any changes to the squad despite losing their last game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Despite having a decent start Mumbai lost the plot as they lost Rohit in the final over of the powerplay. After his dismissal, Surya Kumar Yadav and Quinton de Kock started building a partnership as they scored 54 runs for the second wicket before Yadav getting out in the 12th over and from there on, MI’s run-rate came down as from 90/2 in 12 overs, there were reduced to 119/4 in 16 overs with Evin Lewis and Hardik Pandya back in the dug-out.

However, the late fireworks of Kieron Pollard and De Kock helped Mumbai to reach the total of 162/5 in 20 overs. In the final over of Khaleel Ahmed, Pollard lost his wicket owing to a brilliant catch by the young Abhishek Sharma.

During the chase, the SRH openers, Guptill and Wriddhiman Saha started off well as they scored as many as 40 runs for the opening wicket in just 4 overs before the latter getting out in the 4th over Jasprit Bumrah. After his dismissal, Manish Pandey held to one end, but the other batsmen like Vijay Shankar, Abhishek Sharma lost their wickets and SRH was struggling at 106/5 after the 15-over mark.

Manish and Mohammad Nabi added 49 runs for the 6th wicket before the latter getting out in the final over of Hardik. However, the drama started in the final over itself as they needed 17 runs in 6 balls and on the third ball of the over Nabi smashed Hardik for a six before getting out on the very next ball and SRH needed 7 runs off the last ball and Pandey smashed a six and the game went into the 2nd super over  of IPL 2019.

SRH only managed to score 8 runs of the super over of Burmah owing to a six by Nabi as they lost Naabi and Manish in just 4 balls. MI chased down the target of 9 runs in just 3 balls as Hardik smashed a six on the first ball of Rashid Khan.
