For the fourth game in a row for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) managed to churn out a win from the jaws of defeat owing to a fiery batting display by Andre Russell. In the four games so far, the Knight Riders have won three and Russell has incredibly bagged the Man of the Match awards on all the in all those three games. And it would not be entirely wrong to say that his performance in the fourth game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) was the best of the lot.

Russell faced just 13 balls during his knock but it was enough for him to take his team over the line despite the fact that RCB was in the commanding position for most of the period in the game. Asked to bat first, the Royal Challengers put up a massive total of 205 with the help from some brilliant batting from their skipper Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. Royal Challengers would have thought that they would finally register their first win of the season.

And it looked like RCB will be celebrating a win for the first time this season when Navdeep Saini dismissed Dinesh Karthik on the final delivery of the 17th over. At Karthik’s dismissal, the Knight Riders were reeling at 153 for 5, requiring as many as 53 runs in the last three overs. But perhaps nothing is impossible for someone like Russell as the Knight Riders sensationally chased down the total with five balls to spare. Russell slammed 7 sixes and one four during his knock to condemn the hosts to their fifth straight defeat this season.

The entire cricketing fraternity was left shell-shocked after Dre Russ’s flamboyant batting display and his Knight Riders teammate Chris Lynn was not an exception either. The Australian, who scored 43 at the top of the order, took to Twitter to hail Russell and expressed his utter surprise over the six that Russell hit on Mohammed Siraj’s beamer. Lynn tweeted, “Dre Russ is something else. Like how TF do you hit a head high full toss over wide long on”.

Even after the game, Shah Rukh Khan, the co-owner of the KKR, was a happy man for the obvious reasons. And he did not take much time in taking to Twitter to praise his players. He heaped praise on the likes of Chris Lynn, Nitish Rana and Robin Uthappa but saved his best for the man of the moment Andre Russell.

“Well played boys @KKRiders @lynny50 @NitishRana_27 @robbieuthappa. Each one in the team did so well but you all will agree all words of praise r worth less than this picture…,” wrote Shah Rukh Khan.
