IPL 2020: Royal Challengers Bangalore push back training camp in coronavirus outbreak

In between coronavirus threat, Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Monday postponed their training camp which was scheduled to take place from March 21 until further notice. RCB also asked everyone to follow the guidelines provided by the Health Ministry amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Keeping in mind the health and safety of everyone involved, the RCB Training Camp scheduled to start on the 21st of March has been deferred until further notice. We request everyone to follow the guidelines provided by the Health Ministry and stay safe,” RCB’s official handle tweeted.

In the players’ auction for IPL 2020, RCB managed to buy Chris Morris (South Africa), Aaron Finch (Australia), Kane Richardson (Australia), Dale Steyn (South Africa), Isuru Udana (Sri Lanka), Shahbaz Ahamad, Joshua Philippe (Australia), Pavan Deshpande.

The 13th edition of IPL was earlier scheduled to start from March 29. However, on March 13, BCCI decided to postpone the start date of IPL until April 15 as a precautionary measure amid the coronavirus pandemic. On March 14, all the IPL franchises met with the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly in Mumbai to discuss as to how to go on with the cash-rich tournament in the future.

Post-meeting, the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had said that the IPL 2020 can be a ‘truncated one’ but he did not share how many days or how many games can be played now. However, Kings XI Punjab’s Ness Wadia said that he doesn’t know when it will begin. In India, there have been two deaths already reported and over 80 positive COVID-19 cases have been reported as well.

Along with this, another option is to play behind closed doors as well where all the 60 games can be played in a shorter time frame too. COVID-19 has seen more than 5,000 deaths globally already. On the other hand, Delhi Capitals owner Parth Jindal said that there will be another meeting which will take place later where it will be discussed on other things.
