The International Cricket Council (ICC) has banned the use of saliva on the cricket ball in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. The decision came into being before the England vs West Indies Test series back in July 2020. They made this decision in an attempt to prevent the spread of the virus during games.

IPL, too, followed it and banned the use of saliva for shining the ball. However, players are allowed to shine it from their sweat.

The incident occurred when Mishra started his spell. He forgot about the rule and ended up applying saliva on the ball, which the umpire noticed instantly and stopped him while giving an official warning.

The seasoned spinner had a decent outing during the game as he took the big wicket of Glenn Maxwell, who was looking dangerous while batting in the middle.

Earlier, Rishabh Pant won the toss and invited RCB to bat first, keeping the dew factor in mind. RCB openers fell off cheaply and the responsibility fell on the shoulders of AB de Villiers once again. The veteran batsman didn’t disappoint his team and played a blinder of a knock. His unbeaten 75 runs in 42 balls took RCB’s total to 171/5 in 20 overs.

In response, RCB bowlers bowled with their tails up. Kyle Jamieson dismissed in-form Shikhar Dhawan before Mohammed Siraj sent Steve Smith back. Prithvi Shaw was looking in good touch before throwing his wicket away to Harshal Patel. Rishabh Pant held one end tight but went very conservative with his approach. Shimron Hetmyer blasted RCB bowlers to all corners of the park but Delhi Capitals fell just one run short of the target.
