IPL Fate to be Decided Over Conference Call?

The fate of  IPL 2020 will be decided over a conference call between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises on Tuesday. They will discuss the next course of action there. On March 13, the BCCI had decided to postpone the Indian Premier League (IPL) till April 15 due to the COVID-19 outbreak all over the world. Earlier it was about to start on March 29.

“BCCI and IPL franchise to have a conference call on coming Tuesday to discuss the process and further way of IPL 2020,” a BCCI source told ANI.

Moreover, the BCCI had also asked their employees to work from home now as the COVID-19 has been affecting people and the rate is increasing day by day. The total number of affected cases in India has now reached up to 223, including 32 foreigners, the Union Health Ministry said on Friday.

“BCCI office has closed so no meeting can be held there similarly no meeting can be held in the hotel so they have opted conference call,” the source added.

However, as many as 23 people have been healed of the infection in India. The disease has claimed more than 10,000 lives globally. Coronavirus has affected not only everyone’s lives but also sporting events across the globe which included the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League where no decision took place yet as the situation has not changed much in the last few days amid the novel coronavirus pandemic in the country as well as globally.

Earlier the BCCI has postponed the start date of the tournament from March 29 to April 15 as India currently reported over 200 positive cases and four deaths for COVID-19 so far. While all the foreign visas have already been put on hold till April 15, the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has said that a “truncated IPL” can take place where a minimum 17 days already lost.
