Team India captain Rohit Sharma lauded his side’s fielding and catching during the two-match Test home series against Bangladesh. The hosts won both games by comfortable margins of 280 runs and seven wickets respectively as well. Several Indian players made their mark by pulling off spectacular catches during the two Tests as well.

In a video shared by the BCCI on their official website, Rohit said, “It may go unnoticed, but I was just informed that out of the 24 catches that came our way, we took 23 of them, which is a great result. Especially in the slips, you don’t often see in India a ball carrying through the slips. But the guys who were standing behind were so sharp and to take those catches, it may look easy on television, but it is not. Trust me, because they are standing way ahead than they normally do. So all those catches that come their way, they are very hard to take. The reaction time is very less. And I have seen it, they put a lot of effort in getting those things right. And Dilip obviously is helping with the players. Some crucial catches as well, which actually turned the game around.”

However, Rohit Sharma himself set the tone on the fourth morning of the Kanpur Test by grabbing a brilliant one-handed catch at mid-off to remove Litton Das. When asked about Mohammed Siraj’s stunning one-handed catch on Day 4 of the second Bangladesh Test, Rohit Sharma praised the pacer for his commitment on the field as well.

“Siraj is a great athlete, superb athlete, gives it everything on the field. Even when is bowling on a flat pitch where there’s not much happening, he wants to do something and make something happen. Talk to the batter, make him slightly uncomfortable so that he and the team gets into the game,” concluded Rohit Sharma.
