Leaving the bad performance of Wellington T20I behind, Khaleel Ahmed bowled beautifully during the second T20 International against New Zealand. Khaleel returned with the figures of 2/27, where he took both his wickets in the last over of the innings and contained New Zealand to 158/8.

He conceded as many as 48 runs during his four-over spell in Wellington’s Westpac Stadium and managed just one wicket to his name. Facing the press-conference for the first time in his short international career, he was asked about India’s bowling plans to avoid the short ball in this match.

He looked happy after executing the plans well and replied: “the ground was small and there wasn’t much swing.”

Showing his excitement of playing overseas, Khaleel quoted, “It is a little tough in New Zealand running against the wind but a good experience nonetheless.”

Khaleel Ahmed was also thrilled with the support for the Indian team in Auckland. India’s fans far outnumbered New Zealand’s and even Nathan McCullum felt like he was back in India.

The most amazing moment during his press-conference came when he was asked whether his team is missing Virat Kohli or not? Khaleel burst out in a laugh and instantly replied “Don’t ask… Next question please.”

Virat Kohli was rested from the last two ODIs as well as the whole T20I series against New Zealand.

A controversial dismissal of Daryl Mitchell sparked the controversy about the Decision Review System (DRS). The umpire gave him out before the batsman opted to review the decision. The HotSpot clearly showed an inside edge on the bat while Snickometer was not showing any spikes on the bat. The original decision of lbw stand and Mitchell had to leave the field.

Khaleel was asked about this umpiring howler by journalists, where he said “We were just waiting for umpire’s call because we can’t do anything in that decision. Whatever the umpires said we just accepted it.”
