New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson gave a second successive match-winning performance in the second Test against India at Hagley Oval as the Kiwis registered a 2-0 series win. Jamieson won the Player of the Series award after taking 5 for 45 in India’s first innings followed by 49 with the bat at number nine as India’s pace bowlers bounced back on a green pitch that offered a movement off the seam.

“It’s been a pretty surreal couple of weeks to be part of this group and to win a couple of Test matches as well,” said Jamieson, who took 4-39 followed by a 44 with four sixes on his debut in the opening Test in Wellington last week. “Having had this little taste of it, this is where I want to be.”

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson also praised Jamieson’s performance with the bat which proved important in the series.

“Those runs he scored at the back of the innings in both games were of incredible value,” he said.

He entered in the U-19 team as a specialist batsman. His calibre as a bowler was spotted in Christchurch by the current New Zealand coach Gary Stead and former New Zealand pace bowler Dayle Hadlee, the elder brother of New Zealand’s greatest cricketer Richard Hadlee as well.

Hadlee senior took Kyle Jamieson under his guidance and the 25-year-old has progressed very soon to a great extent that he was selected this year for the international team as well. Jamieson immediately kept everyone’s trust in the first Test at Basin Reserve, bowling as first change to the experienced New Zealand pace duo of Tim Southee and Trent Boult and won the Player of the Match award as well.

In the second also, he performed brilliantly and his high action and steep bounce from a good length on the off-stump has troubled every batsman in the Indian lineup which cost them the series as well.
