Table toppers Chennai Super Kings traveled East to face Kolkata Knight Riders at their home ground, Eden Gardens. After being inserted to bat in first, CSK built a solid platform with Watson and Raina consolidating. KKR managed to stop them in the middle overs but it was MSD once again who took the control of the last overs and took CSK to the final total of 177/5.

Earlier in the night, Dinesh Karthik won the toss and chose field first on the home track. KKR had one forced change. They replaced the injured Nitish Rana with Rinku Singh. Chennai Super Kings went in unchanged. Shane Watson and FAF Du Plessis opened the innings for CSK.

The start from CSK was quite positive as Watson and FAF began with two boundaries the opening over of Mitchell Johnson. Du Plessis kept the momentum with two more boundaries off Chawla. The partnership peaked in the fifth over where Du Plessis smashed Johnson for two sixes in the over. Du Plessis was bowled by Chawla’s googly in the next over.

By the end of the powerplay, CSK had managed 57 runs with the loss of one wicket. The hero so far in the tournament for Chennai, Shane Watson was out next to Narine for 36 from 25 balls. Soon, Raina went back with 31 and Dhoni-Rayudu now took control.

Mr.consistent Ambati Rayudu took the orange cap and went back for 21 from 17 balls but MS Dhoni put on another show and thrashed the Kolkata bowlers for 43 runs from 25 balls. The fiery innings contained no boundaries and four sixes. He batted till the end and took CSK to 178/5. Pick of the bowlers for KKR was Sunil Narine who took 2/21 in his four overs.
