The Indian cricket team is looking the most balanced at the moment among the teams that will play the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in England. MSK Prasad, the chairman of the selection committee of BCCI, has mentioned that Team India is spoilt for choices when it comes to picking the 15-member squad for the upcoming World Cup, which will be played from May 30 in England and Wales.

Team India’s winning juggernaut in the One-Day International cricket is rolling since the start of 2017. They have only lost one ODI series, which came against highly competitive England. In the meantime, India defeated South Africa, Australia and New Zealand in their own backyard. Hence, everyone is labeling India as the hot-favorite to lift the World Cup in England.

Speaking to India Today, MSK Prasad said that the selectors have a healthy headache when it comes to picking the squad for the upcoming World Cup, mentioning that there are still 2-3 spots up for grabs in the Indian squad. He also insisted that these two-three spots are crucial for the balance of the team.

“Well, I can clearly say we are having a healthy headache, spoiled for choice. We need to strike the balance. This is a mega event, and we want to win the World Cup. So that is where those two-three slots are going to be very crucial,” chief selector said.

MSK Prasad further added, “It’s going to be a long, long tournament. We need to pick the right XI, strike the right balance. What is more important is our players have to be fit for the next 45 days and after the IPL. These are the things that we need to keep in mind.”

The tussle of the remaining spot is between Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik for a backup wicketkeeper. Also, KL Rahul is in line to make his way into the squad. Other than that, either Vijay Shankar or Ravindra Jadeja will be selected as the second all-rounder in the team, if Hardik Pandya is to be replaced in the playing XI.
