Official Broadcasters Confirm India’s Limited-overs Tour To Sri Lanka

While the Indian fans are eagerly waiting for the commencement of the maiden World Test Championship final set to be played in England, the schedule of India’s limited-overs tour to Sri Lanka has been confirmed by the official broadcasters. India will be touring the island nation for three ODIs and as many T20Is with the first ODI scheduled to be commencing on July 13 and the final T20 will be played on July 25.

The three ODIs will be played on July 13, July 16, and July 18, respectively. The first T20I will be played on July 21 with the second and final being played on July 23 and July 25, respectively. The schedule announced by the official broadcasters on Monday, also carried the pictures of Shikhar Dhawan and Isuru Udana on its promotional Twitter post, possibly hinting at the captains of their respective teams. 

As the tour of Sri Lanka will be taking place when most of the Indian stalwarts with their Test appointment against England, the BCCI is expected to field a squad of ‘white ball specialists’ in order to given match practice to the players expected to get selected for the T20 World Cup later this year.

In the absence of Ravi Shastri and his team, the BCCI  has considered Rahul Dravid to travel with teh team to Sri Lanka. Moreover, with Virat Kohli and his limited-overs deputy Rohit Sharma being busy in England, Shikhar Dhawan will be expected to lead both the limited-overs team comprising of IPL budding stars and new faces in Sri Lanka. 

Apart from the youngsters like Devdutt Padikkal and Chetan Sakariya, the team will feature players like Yuzvendra Chahal, Deepak Chahar, Pandya brothers, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan.

India’s tour of England will end on September 14 and with IPL 2021 expected to resume on September 19 in teh UAE, the BCCI would want the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, Yuzvendra Chahal to be match ready with the World Cup set to begin in October.
