Former South African bowler Omar Henry puts Dale Steyn in his starting XI for the Cape Town Test against India. He believes there is no need to think twice about the selection of Steyn in the Test cricket.

Steyn has been on and off the field in past 24 months curtsey a troubled shoulder, which again forced him to stay away from the game in November 2016. He was playing against Australia in Perth when he fractured his shoulder while bowling in the match. He made his return to the field after a year but hasn’t featured in any international match since then.

However, Henry thinks Steyn can’t be ignored as India does have a star batting line-up. “Dale simply has to play. We need to play our four best seamers against India plus the spinner. India have improved- both batting and bowling, but in our conditions, we need to attack them with our best four seam bowlers plus the spinner,” he said.

Thus, South Africa may face a selection conundrum ahead of the series opener in Cape Town. Their fast bowling arsenal is fired up with some red-hot coals in it in form of Kagiso Rabada, Morne Morkel and Vernon Philander. At the same time, no team can afford to sit a bowler like Steyn on the bench from a big match.

The first Test will commence from January 5 in Cape Town, which will be followed by Tests in Centurion and Johannesburg respectively.
