The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has handed a fine to Pakistani batsman Umar Akmal, who was allegedly found guilty of partying after the fourth One-Day International against Australia in Dubai. Akmal has to pay 20 per cent of his match fee as a fine as he made a night outing in mid-series.

The PCB revealed that Team Manager Talat Ali had a hearing with the batsman where he accepted his mistake. Akmal instantly apologized for his actions and said the same will not be repeated in history.

A video clip emerged on social media showing Umar having a late night outing after Pakistan had lost the fourth ODI in Dubai, following which a debate stirred on whether the batsman had shown indiscipline or his personal life should be respected.

PCB Managing Director Wasim Khan said:

“I am glad that Umar has realised his mistake and has accepted and apologised for his actions, which were clearly unprofessional and in no way can be ignored or overlooked.

“The PCB expects a high level of professionalism and commitment from its players, and this action is a reiteration and timely reminder that any indiscipline shall not be tolerated or accepted.”

Umar Akmal has his share of controversies in the past and was removed from the team for his behaviour. He is among the most promising batsman in Pakistan but lacks consistency on the most part of his career. Recently, he made an international comeback during the five-match ODI series against Australia in UAE. In the first game, he did well with the bat but threw a good start away and failed to convert it into a big score.

Head coach Mickey Arthur, who had a run-in with Umar in Lahore last year, has said that while Umar’s attitude has improved, he needs to work more on his fitness.
