West Indies have failed to start their India series on a winning note, despite playing the T20 format of the game. Meanwhile, the first T20I match at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy saw the hosts face a 68-run defeat on Friday as India captain Rohit Sharma became the highest run-getter in the T20I format. And, the newly appointed captain of West Indies, Nicholas Pooran has said that the team was fairly disappointed after the loss.

“Disappointed as a team. The crowd here has been absolutely amazing and we have disappointed them. The players have been feeling very hurt but this is the first game of the T20 series and we will look to bounce back,” Nicholas Pooran said.

However, West Indies were forced to field five players inside the 30-yard-circle after falling behind the over-rate which also added to India’s advantage in the last two overs of the game as well. Team India scored 40 runs off those two overs and posted 190 runs.

“Yes, it was. In 18 overs, it was 150, we were indisciplined and we paid the price and the guys know that. 190 was always going to be challenging. We got a good start but the batters did not carry on. We lost wickets everytime we had some momentum and that cost us. We had already lost four wickets in the first ten overs and that cost us the game,” Nicholas Pooran concluded.

Windies have a new-looking team after the departure of legends Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard, Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo as well. The team is still finding their groove under the leadership of Nicholas Pooran and they will have to do a lot of work to do well in the T20 World Cup as well, slated to be held in Australia this year.
